Having days off from work is nice. I need to enjoy my days off on day shifts while I can. Night shifts consume my sleeping schedule and I haven't figured out the right formula to reaping the benefits of daylight while working the same night. But with that being said, today was my day off and this week I have some sense of normalcy. And it was great.
First off, woke up super early thinking I'd drive my baby cousins to school. They're not so little anymore - one's in middle school, and the other's in high school. Only one is still in elementary. But I got to get up early and listen to him bicker with his parents about not getting enough sleep and being tired, and hear his nagging, begging his mom to check the news just in case it was a snow day. I drove back to Boston early to have enough time to do things. I wanted to go to the gym right away because I've been dying for my sauna fix, but I quickly realized I didn't have a sports bra. So I made an emergency stop at Dick's Sporting Goods, purchased a Nike sports bra because I am in love with them, and tried a new gym. In honesty, I just stopped by because it was closer to my usual gym, and I was dying to work out which never happens (I sometimes just force myself). And I knew every gym has a free trial, so I only wanted to trial my day.
It was a really nice gym. It was called Healthworks in Chestnut Hill which is a women's only gym. I thought I wouldn't care about all-women or all-men or mixed or whatever, but being in a huge room of just women working out really plays a number on your mindset. I think the fact that there were no guys there really put me at ease because there's no pressure to lift a higher weight, or think you're dressed like a slut because you're shorts are too short (in addition to sports bras I also really enjoy short shorts). The lack of pressure and twist in mentality added some real spice to my workout. I felt less worried about my environment, more zoned in, and more productive.
After my workout, I tested out their steam room, sauna, showers, and (*drumroll please*) . . their whirlpool. I've never seen a gym with a whirlpool! Like a nice luxurious looking one, at that. I'll probably get sick of it after I see it twelve more times, but everything looked so pristine, I really wanted to sign up. That's how they getcha.
So.. I signed up, -_-. Here I am a day after my New Year's resolution post bitching about people who sign up for the gym on New Year's signing up for the gym. It's a little expensive so I'll probably end up canceling it, but today was special only because my gym experiences are never that good. Then I got all dolled-up and felt like a movie star wrapped up in my towel blow-drying my hair and putting my makeup on. When I left though, I couldn't help but think damn,
I feel sexy today.
